Investor visa as part of your company setup

The investor visa is the natural final step of company formation in Oman: once your company has its Commercial Registration, Chamber membership and municipality licence, it can sponsor residence for its shareholders. We file it as part of your setup, so you leave with a company, a bank account and residence.

Frequently asked questions

Can I get an investor visa in Oman without living there?

The investor visa is a residence visa, so you need to complete the medical test and biometrics in Oman. You don't have to stay continuously, but long absences can affect renewal.

How long is the investor visa valid?

Usually two years, renewable while you remain a shareholder and the company stays in good standing.

Is there a minimum investment for an investor visa?

The standard investor residence follows company ownership rather than a fixed investment amount. Long-term 5- and 10-year residence requires minimum investments.

Can I work for another company on an investor visa?

The investor visa relates to your role in your own company. Taking employment elsewhere generally requires that employer to sponsor you.

Do I have to live in Oman to keep my investor visa?

Residence visas can lapse after long absences from Oman under the immigration rules, so plan your travel and renewals with us.

Can I sponsor my family on an investor visa?

Yes, subject to the conditions for family sponsorship. See family visa.

How long does it take to get an investor visa in Oman?

Once the company is registered and licensed, the investor visa, medical, biometrics and resident card usually take two to three weeks.

What documents do I need for an investor visa?

Your passport and photograph, the company's Commercial Registration and licences, and proof of your shareholding. We prepare the application from the company file.

Can more than one shareholder get an investor visa?

Yes. Each qualifying shareholder can apply through the company, subject to the rules for their shareholding.

Do I need to be in Oman for the medical test?

Yes. The medical and biometrics are completed in Oman after the visa is approved, usually during the same trip as the bank meeting.

What happens to my investor visa if I sell my shares?

Residence is linked to your shareholding, so it must be cancelled or changed to another route if you exit the company.
