Oman visa renewal – guide

Renewing a residence visa

  1. Check that the company's CR, chamber membership and lease are valid; renew them first if needed.
  2. Renew the work permit with the Ministry of Labour for employees.
  3. Complete the medical test where required for renewal.
  4. Renew the resident card through the ROP.
  5. Update health insurance where applicable.

Start renewals at least a month before expiry. After expiry, daily or monthly fines can apply, and an expired residence affects banking, travel and other government services.

Cancelling a residence visa

Cancellation is needed when:

  • An employee resigns or is terminated
  • A shareholder leaves the company
  • Dependants leave Oman permanently
  • The company is closed. See company liquidation.

Steps: final settlement and end-of-service calculation, work permit cancellation with the Ministry of Labour, resident card cancellation with the ROP, and exit from Oman or transfer to a new sponsor within the permitted time.

Employer duties

  • Keep track of every employee's permit and resident card expiry
  • Do not let staff stay on expired residence
  • Report absconding employees through the proper channels
  • Settle final dues through WPS

Our PRO service maintains a renewal calendar for every employee.

Why renewals fail

  • The company's CR, municipality licence or lease has expired.
  • Unpaid fines on the company or the employee.
  • Changes in occupation or salary not updated with the Ministry of Labour.
