How trademark registration works in Oman
Trademarks are registered with the intellectual property department of MOCIIP under Oman's industrial property law and the GCC trademark framework. Protection is territorial: an Omani registration protects your mark in Oman only.

Step by step
- Clearance search. We check the register for identical or similar marks in your classes.
- Filing. We file the application covering your goods and services, using the Nice Classification (one application per class).
- Examination. The office checks distinctiveness and conflicts with earlier marks, and may issue objections.
- Publication. Accepted marks are published in the Official Gazette, opening a period for third-party opposition.
- Registration. If there is no successful opposition, the registration fee is paid and the certificate is issued.
The whole process commonly takes several months, depending on objections and oppositions.
Protection and renewal
- Registration lasts 10 years from the filing date.
- It is renewable for further 10-year periods.
- Non-use for a continuous period can make a mark vulnerable to cancellation, so use it, and keep evidence that you do.
Documents needed
- Applicant details: company or individual
- A clear image of the mark, for word, logo or combined marks
- The list of goods and services and the classes
- A power of attorney, legalised as required
- Priority documents if you are claiming priority from an earlier foreign filing
Who needs trademark registration
Any company trading under a brand in Oman: retailers and e-commerce brands, restaurants and franchises, consultancies, manufacturers and distributors of foreign brands. Your trade name on the Commercial Registration does not give you trademark rights — only registration with the intellectual property department does.
Benefits of registering
Exclusive rights
You can stop others using the same or a confusingly similar mark for the same goods or services.
Customs enforcement
Registered owners can work with customs to act against counterfeit imports.
Franchising and licensing
A registered mark can be licensed to franchisees and distributors and supports commercial agency registrations.
Marketplace and domain disputes
Registration strengthens takedown requests on online platforms and domain-name complaints.
