Why you need an Omani bank account
- Salaries must be paid through the Wage Protection System (WPS), which runs through local banks.
- Government fees, such as labour, immigration and municipality fees, are easiest to pay from a local account.
- Customers, suppliers and payment gateways expect local banking details.
- Banks may also be asked to confirm capital deposits for some licences.
What banks typically ask for
- Commercial Registration and Chamber of Commerce certificate
- Articles of association and any amendments
- Municipality licence and registered office lease
- Passports, and resident cards where held, of shareholders, managers and signatories
- Ownership chart down to the ultimate beneficial owners
- Corporate documents of any shareholder companies, attested
- Business profile: activities, customers, suppliers, countries, expected volumes
- Source of funds and source of wealth information
- Proof of address for the individuals involved
Do I need to visit Oman?
Usually, yes. Most banks need the authorised signatory to attend a meeting in person, at least for account opening, and some require a residence visa for signatories. We schedule the meeting so you can combine it with visa formalities.
How we help
- Bank selection. Banks have different appetites for sectors, nationalities and transaction profiles. We help you choose.
- File preparation. We compile a complete, consistent document pack and a clear business profile.
- Pre-screening. We check the file against common compliance questions before submission.
- Follow-up. We follow up with the relationship manager until the account is opened.
Opening a bank account is always at the bank's discretion; no adviser can guarantee approval.
Who needs this service
Every newly registered company in Oman needs a local corporate account to receive customer payments, pay government fees, run payroll through the Wage Protection System and receive capital. This service is for companies we set up or manage, and for foreign-owned companies whose shareholders are not yet resident in Oman.
How the process works
| Step | What happens | Typical time |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Bank shortlist | We recommend banks that suit your activity, currency needs and shareholder profile | 1–2 days |
| 2. KYC pack | Company documents, shareholder IDs, business profile, source of funds | 1–2 weeks |
| 3. Application | Submission and the bank's compliance review | 1–3 weeks |
| 4. Meeting | Signatories meet the bank, in person or as the bank permits | By appointment |
| 5. Activation | Account number, online banking, cards and WPS set-up | 1–2 weeks |
Tips to avoid delays
- Write a clear business profile: what you sell, to whom, expected monthly turnover and the countries you will pay or receive money from.
- Explain source of funds for the capital and initial operations, with supporting documents.
- Keep shareholder structures transparent: banks need to identify every ultimate beneficial owner.
- Have premises in place: banks prefer a registered office lease, not just a registration address.
- Match activities to transactions: payments that don't fit your registered activities trigger questions.
Common reasons for rejection
- Unclear ownership chains or nominee arrangements
- High-risk activities or countries without clear explanations
- Incomplete or inconsistent documents between the CR, articles and KYC forms
- No physical presence or credible business plan in Oman
