Zero-rated and exempt supplies
Some supplies are zero-rated, meaning VAT is charged at 0% and input VAT can still be recovered. Examples include exports, international transport, many basic food items, certain medicines and medical equipment, and investment gold. Others are exempt, meaning no VAT is charged and the related input VAT is not recoverable. Examples include certain financial services, bare land, resale of residential property, and local passenger transport. Classification matters, so we review your supplies when we register you.
E-invoicing
The Oman Tax Authority is phasing in a national e-invoicing system (Fawtara) for VAT-registered businesses, starting with larger taxpayers. Businesses will need invoicing systems that meet the technical specifications for their phase. We help you check readiness and timelines.
