How to handle visa rejection in Oman

A rejected visa is frustrating, but most rejections in Oman have a fixable cause. The first step is to find out which stage failed, because Oman's residence process involves several authorities.

Where rejections happen

Common reasons and fixes

Sponsor company issues. An expired CR, municipality licence or lease, unpaid fines, or a company flagged in the Ministry of Labour system will block applications. Fix: renew or regularise the company's records first. See corporate compliance.

Omanisation shortfall. Companies below their sector's Omanisation target may be refused new expatriate permits. Fix: meet the target or use any permitted exemption. See Omanisation rules.

Restricted occupation. Some job titles are reserved for Omanis. Fix: apply under the correct occupation that matches the real role and the applicant's qualifications.

Document problems. Unattested degrees, mismatched names, expiring passports or poor-quality scans. Fix: correct the documents and reapply.

Previous violations. Past overstays, absconding reports or unsettled cases can lead to refusal. Fix: resolve the case, pay the fines and, where possible, obtain clearance before reapplying.

Medical unfitness. Certain conditions lead to an unfit result. Fix: follow the medical centre's process. Some results allow review.

2. Fix the underlying issue, whether it sits with the company, the documents or a previous case.
